About Basara

Basara is a small town on the banks of the Godavari River, famous for its Gnana Saraswati Temple. It is one of the two most famous Saraswati temples in India, the other being in Kashmir. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess of knowledge and learning. It is a popular pilgrimage site, especially for families who bring their children to perform the 'Akshara abhyasam' ceremony, a ritual to mark the beginning of their education. The temple has a serene and divine atmosphere.
