About Nagarjuna Sagar

Nagarjuna Sagar is home to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, one of the largest masonry dams in the world, built across the Krishna River. The massive dam creates a huge reservoir, which is a popular tourist attraction. A key highlight is Nagarjunakonda, a river island in the reservoir that houses relocated ancient Buddhist ruins and a museum. The island was once a major center for Buddhist learning. A boat trip to the island to explore the museum and the ancient stupas is a fascinating experience.
