Vaishali holds a distinguished place in history as one of the world's earliest republics, flourishing in the 6th century BCE. This archaeological site is deeply significant for both Buddhists and Jains. It was here that Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon and announced his impending Mahaparinirvana. A key landmark is the well-preserved Ashokan Pillar, a monolithic polished sandstone column topped with a lion. The site also contains the sacred coronation tank of the Lichhavi clan and the Ramkund. Vaishali is a peaceful and evocative destination that offers a profound connection to the ancient democratic and spiritual heritage of India.
