About Cellular Jail

The Cellular Jail, also known as 'Kala Pani,' is a national memorial and a poignant symbol of India's struggle for independence. This colonial prison was used by the British to exile political prisoners in extremely harsh conditions. Each of the jail's cells was designed for solitary confinement. Today, the jail stands as a solemn shrine to the freedom fighters who were imprisoned here. A visit to the Cellular Jail is a humbling experience, offering a deep insight into the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. The evening sound and light show vividly narrates its history.
