Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met didn’t just give Bollywood one of its greatest road-trip anthems; it permanently etched the stark, high-altitude beauty of Rohtang Pass into Indian pop culture. When Kareena Kapoor (Geet) famously stands in the open jeep, winding through the colossal, blinding-white snow walls to the beats of "Yeh Ishq Hai", it triggered a massive surge in Manali tourism. To actually experience this cinematic thrill, you have to endure the grueling, bumpy 51-kilometer drive up the Manali-Leh highway. The air thins out dramatically as you climb to 13,050 feet (3,978 meters). You won't find a peaceful, isolated winter wonderland here; the reality of Rohtang is raw and chaotic. The biting mountain wind will freeze your hands within minutes, and you will share the slushy snow with hundreds of other tourists renting heavy synthetic snowsuits. But the sheer, imposing scale of the Pir Panjal range makes the physical friction entirely worth it. For a stark contrast, the film also highlights the 15th-century Naggar Castle in the Kullu Valley. Located just 20 km from Manali town, this historic stone-and-timber mansion served as the vibrant backdrop for the Himachali folk dance sequences in the same song, where Kapoor dances in traditional attire.
